Japanese Film Pioneer Dies

Special effects director and cinematographer Sadamasa Arikawa passed away September 22, 2005 at age 80 in Izu, Japan. Arikawa was one of the pioneers of Japan’s science fiction film genre, working with Godzilla creator Eiji Tsuburaya on numerous beginning with the 1956 film Rodan, Arikawa continued to work on Asian science fiction and giant monster movies through 1979.
