First Review of the Final Fantasy Movie

Ain’t it Cool News has posted the first review of Columbia Pictures initial test screening of the Final Fantasy movie, held this past weekend. The review does contain some detail about the movie’s story that may be considered minor spoiler information by some readers. The positive side of the review states that the film maintains a very metaphysical Japanese style, similar to Ghost in the Shell and Mononoke Hime, which is good news for fans, but may not appeal to mainstream American viewers. Unfortunately, the review also states that the animation is the film’s sole saving grace. Based on an unfinished 90 minute rough cut of the film, this review critiques, “…If this movie were live action, it would suck. The plot, characters, and direction are hopeless. Maybe the animation can save it but from what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t count on it.”
