New Jungle Emperor Anime Announced

The Fuji TV network has revealed the development of a new Jungle Emperor TV special based on the Osamu Tezuka’s beloved 1950 manga series. The new special, written by Osamu Suzuki, screenwriter of the Lovely Complex live action film, will be an entirely original story introducing a white lion cub raised in an artificial “Neo Jungle” who vows to grow up to become the jungle emperor. While the new special will have no direct continuity connection to Tezuka’s Jungle Emperor manga and anime, it will concentrate on a similar story and the themes of family, friendship, and environmental issues that characterized Tezuka’s original work. The special will commemorate the Fuji TV network’s 50th anniversary, and the 80th anniversary of Osamu Tezuka’s birth. Tezuka passed away in 1989.

Code Geass director Goro Taniguchi, Minoru Nishida, art director for the Kiku-chan to Okami TV special and the Hi no Tori TV series, and acclaimed painter Yoshitaka Amano have all been confirmed to work on the new TV special.
