Yuen Woo Ping & Sonny Chiba to Work with Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino, famed director of Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown, has confirmed that Yuen Woo Ping & Sonny Chiba will have major roles in his next film, the martial arts action film Kill Bill, staring Uma Thurman. Woo Ping and Chiba will train Thurman’s assassin character in Chinese and Japanese martial arts styles. Woo Ping will also handle the kung-fu fight choreography, and Chiba will supervise the samurai swordplay sequences in the film. Tarantino has vowed that the film will focus on “real” martial arts and minimize the use of wirework or exaggerated stunts.

Yuen Woo Ping has been active in the Hong Kong film industry for 3 decades including acting, directing and choreographing in films including Jackie Chan’s Snake in Eagle’s Shadow, Jet Li’s Fist of Legend and Tai Chi Master, Michelle Yeoh’s Wing Chun, and Donnie Yen’s Iron Monkey. Woo Ping also provided the fight choreography for The Matrix.

Sonny Chiba has been steadily active in Asian cinema equally as long and is considered a living legend of action films. He has stared in films alongside such notable actors as the late Toshiro Mifune, Tomisaburo Wakayama, and even Jackie Chan has admitted to accepting a minor role early in his career for an opportunity to work with Sonny Chiba.
