Video Game News

Dragon Quest 7, one of the most long-delayed and most anticipated video games in years, will finally see release in Japan for the Playstation on the 26th, with a retail price of 7800 yen. As with all of the previous Dragon Quest games, known in the US as Dragon Warrior, the character and monster designs for this game were provided by Dragonball’s Akira Toriyama. In Japan, the popularity of Dragon Quest rivals that of the Final Fantasy. Japanese schools have been known to close on the day Dragon Quest games go on sale because so many students skip school in favor of the game.

The Japanese Playstation 2 will get a version of Sunrise Super Hero Battle R in November. This version of the adventure/strategy RPG will feature mecha and characters from 22 Sunrise Studios anime series interacting and fighting, including characters and mecha from such shows as Gundam, Gundam Wing, SPT Layzner, Votoms, Gaogaiger, Vifam, L-Gaim, Dougram, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Troopers, Gulkeever and GPX Cyber Formula.

The Takara 2D fighting game Tatsunoko Fight will be released in a special limited edition Millennium box edition on October 30th. The standard version of the game will be released on September 28th for 5800 yen. The Street-Fighter style fighting game features characters from classic 70s Tatsunoko hero shows Space Knight Tekkaman, Hurricane Polymer, Android Hunter Casshan and Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, along with the new hero Volter. The Mellinnium box will include a copy of the game, a booklet with art and history on the characters, a metal trading card, and a set of 5 small metal figures of each of the main heroes.
