Uchoten Kazoku Anime Announced

P.A. Works (Hanasaku Iroha, Tari Tari) has announced plans to produce an anime TV series adaptation of author Tomihiko Morimi’s 2007 novel Uchoten Kazoku (Ecstatic Family). The best-selling novel revolves around a highly eccentric tanuki family that lives in an alternate reality Kyoto in which humans, tengu, and shape-shifting tanuki all reside. Higashi no Eden assistant director Masayuki Yoshihara will make his series lead directing debut on the project. Rinne no Lagrange screenwriter Shotaro Suga is writing the series. Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei creator Kouji Kumeta will provide the original character designs which Angel Beats & Hanasaku Iroha animation director Kousuke Kawazura will adapt for animation. The anime will tentatively premiere in July.

Tomihiko Morimi’s 2004 novel Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei was adapted into an anime TV series in 2010 by studio Madhouse.
