Toonami: Absolution NeXt Interviews Toonami Producer

Toonami: Absolution NeXt has published a rare, extensive interview with Sean Akins, the producer in charge of Cartoon Network’s Toonami programming. Among the points in the interview most interesting to anime fans:

IGPX Immortal Grand Prix was commissioned by Toonami, and produced in Japan, to be Toonami’s fourth Total Immersion Event. It will be replacing the domestically produced CG shorts featuring the robot Tom. IGPX “was definitely created just for Toonami.”

The Cartoon Network no longer has broadcast rights to Tenchi Muyo or Outlaw Star. The chances of older programs like Gundam Wing being re-broadcast on Toonami are slim.

Rurouni Kenshin was a mixed blessing. The series was popular and successful, but didn’t attract the target market Toonami was hoping for.

“Giant Robot Week was a giant failure!” The chances of seeing more surprises like Evangelion on Toonami are unlikely.
