TOKYOPOP Announces Amateur Manga Art Contest

TOKYOPOP has announced that they will begin accepting entries for their “Rising Stars of Manga” contest on August 15th. Aspiring manga style artists are encouraged to submit an original “manga story” of 15-25 pages. All winning entries will be published in the TOKYOPOP “Rising Stars of Manga” anthology scheduled for worldwide distribution in the spring of 2003. The first place entrant will receive a cash prize of $2,500 and a chance to pitch a full-length manga story to TOKYOPOP’s top brass. However, unlike Japanese fan produced “doujinshi” manga, entries to TOKYOPOP’s contest must be suitable for readers of all ages, meaning no explicit sex, nudity or graphic violence, and all submissions must read in American comic book style left-to-right, not manga style right-to-left.
