Sazae-san Production to Go Digital

Studio Eiken has announced that next month it will switch from creating its weekly Sazae-san anime television series with hand-painted cels to using digital animation. For roughly the past 11 years, Sazae-san has been the only remaining anime television series still created via the traditional method of individually hand-painted production cels. Production of the Doraemon TV anime switched to digital coloring in 2002. Sazae-san is the World Record holder for longest ongoing animated television program. The show has been airing weekly episodes since October 5, 1969. The show now has over 2,250 episodes.
