Psychic Sues Pikachu

Uri Geller, world-renowned psychic entertainer and author, has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles federal court against Nintendo for unauthorized use of his name and likeness on Pokemon cards and related material. Geller contends that he is the basis of the Pokemon character Yun Geller, a pocket monster that holds a spoon and employs psychic powers to induce headaches in his victims. Nintendo claims that Yun Geller, as with all of their characters, is an entirely fictional character, not based on any real person, living or otherwise. The lawsuit demands that Nintendo stop using Geller as a character on its Pokemon cards and pay substantial general and punitive damages. In addition to Nintendo’s unauthorized use of Geller’s identity, name and his signature image of a bent spoon, Gellar also claims that Yun Geller is inflammatory due the lighting bolts on its chest which are similar to the Nazi army’s SS symbol. Geller said, “Nintendo turned me into an evil, occult Pokemon character. Nintendo stole my identity by using my name and my signature image of a bent spoon. I’m filing this lawsuit against Nintendo, not only to protect my name, but also to tell the world before the start of the holiday season that I have nothing whatsoever to do with these violent characters that have a negative impact on children.”
