Opening A Day
To refresh your memory or introduce you to an interesting opening animation sequence, I offer a double feature of the first openings of the 2008 Toaru Majutsu no Index TV series and its 2009 side-story Toaru Kagaku no Railgun. The “Index” theme is Mami Kawada’s “PSI-missing.” The “Railgun” theme is “only my railgun” by fripSide. It’s neat to see how these two openings sequences compliment and complete each other.

These two shows blew me away. What made them so damn impressive to me was the characters, especially Toma in Index. The reluctant hero character has been done before, but the way he completely cancels out anyone who thinks they’re hot stuff is hilarious and badass all at once (and made even more hilarious by Mikoto’s persistence in wanting to defeat him).
These are both day-1 purchases for me when they hit Blu-ray.
