Miyazaki to Direct Howl’s Moving Castle

Following the departure of tentative director Mamoru Hosoda from Ghibli Studio last May and the temporary closure of the Ghibli studio last July, Toho Pictures has now announced that Hayao Miyazaki will personally direct the anime adaptation of Howl’s Moving Castle. Production is scheduled to begin in February for a summer 2004 release.

Based on a fantasy novel by Diana Wynne Jones, Howl’s Moving Castle is “A love story between an 18 year old girl transmuted into an old woman, and a male witch.”
