Live Action Wild Life Television Series Canceled

The Nippon Television Network has reported that the NHK television network has canceled its plans to produce a live action television series adaptation of Masato Fujisaki’s award winning manga series Wild Life following the deaths of two giraffes involved in the production of the program.

During filming at the Akita Omoriyama Zoo in December, female giraffe Ririka was separated from her baby, Himawari, for the first time, for a period of three days. Ririka collapsed and died two days after the filming ended. The baby giraffe, Himawari, died six days later.

Although no connection between the television series filming and the giraffes’ deaths has been definitively established, the NHK television network publicly expressed grief over the deaths and canceled plans to continue developing the Wild Life television drama.
