Japanese Horror Coming to America

Quite a number of cult hit Japanese horror films have now been scheduled for American release.

Takeshi Miike’s Audition will premier on special edition DVD on May 7th.

Tampa, Florida based Video Mayhem, in association with Unearthed Films, has acquired the American and Canadian distribution rights to the notorious 8 installment “Guinea Pig” splatter movie series, long thought to be “unreleasable” in North America due to their intense, disturbing graphic violence and imagery. The films will be release 2 per DVD beginning May 21st. The second film in the series, Flower of Flesh & Blood, is an adaptation of a manga story by Hideshi (Hell Baby) Hino.

Viz will release the surrealistic and insidious Uzumaki, based on manga by Junji Ito, on domestic VHS and DVD, and Fangoria will premier the suspense/thriller Another Heaven on subtitled VHS and DVD in September.

Synapse Films has acquired the American distribution rights to the exploitation/soft-core pornography/monster/horror films “Entrails of a Beauty” and “Entrails of a Virgin.”

Also according to Fangoria.com, Media Blasters has the American theatrical and home video distribution rights to Versus (one of “Ask John’s” favorite films, along with Highlander and Star Wars: A New Hope).
