Next Mamoru Hosoda Film Announced
Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars director Mamoru Hosoda has revealed his next project. Hosoda’s own Studio Chizu, with assistance from Madhouse, will animate Okami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki) for Japanese theatrical release next July. The drama revolves around a human woman who quietly marries a “wolf man” and raises her two wolf children.
Hosoda and writing partner Satoko Okudera composed the film’s screenplay. Summer Wars character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto provided the character designs. Hosoda will direct the production while Summer Wars visual artist Takaaki Yamashita will serve as animation director.

Hosoda + animal ears? I am SO DOWN
However, if Hosoda is using the same screenwriter and the same character designer, does he run the risk of creating more and more stories of less and less diverse nature? Perhaps it’s re-creating the same story of youth-in-love (-turmoil) over and over again, or perhaps it’s something else… Not that he won’t succeed, I’m just sayin’…
