Japanese Government Offers Training Opportunity to Foreign Animators

The Japan Image Council and the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs have launched the Animation Artist in Residence program, which will offer three applicants room and board for 75 days in Tokyo for education & training aimed at enabling the participants to create part or all of a new animated work by the end of their stay. The program is open to any non-Japanese artist applicant aged 20-35 that has screened at least one work at any international film festival. Applicants must also speak Japanese or English well enough to get by in Tokyo. The deadline for applications is September 10, 2010. The training program will be conducted from January and March 2011. Travel and living expenses will be paid for the selected applicants, and opportunities to interact with Japanese creators will be provided. The The Japan Image Council’s goal is to “Promote both the creation of excellent works of animation and a better understanding of Japanese culture.”
