Final Fantasy IX Card Fighter

Final Fantasy 9 will include a card-game mini-game similar to, but more in-depth than Final Fantasy 8’s Triple Triad. Like in Final Fantasy 8, almost every bystander character in Final Fantasy 9 is a card-playing opponent. Players alternately place five cards on a square board (some spaces are randomly blocked, making them off-limits) and each card has its own icon and strength statistics. Each card also has a varying number of arrows that line the card’s edges with the more powerful cards having more arrows. You lay your card so one of its arrows points to an opponent’s card. If the enemy card doesn’t have an arrow pointing back, you gain control of that card. If the card does have an arrow, the two cards “battle” and the one with the higher statistics is the winner. The player with more cards under his/her control at the end wins.
