Toho’s sci-fi re-make of Shurayaki Hime (Lady Snowblood) is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters tomorrow. Donnie Yen provided action choreography for the film, which is said to feature hyper-violent martial arts with extensive wire-work and swordplay. The film is scheduled to open in America and Korea next year.

Ryuhei Kitamura’s second major film, Alive, is nearly finished shooting and is scheduled for Japanese release next year. The director’s first major amateur film, “Down to Hell,” was followed by his first major theatrical release, the international cult hit Versus. Alive is an action film set within a futuristic prison.

Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone has broken Spirited Away’s record for highest gross in the first 9 days of release. Harry Potter took in the equivalent of $40 million American dollars. The previous 9 day record held by Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi was 36 million.
