Capcom to Revolutionize the Gaming Industry Again

The Nihon Keizai Newspaper has reported that Capcom is working on emulation software that will allow their games to work on any and all of the next generation console systems. In an effort to buffer themselves against fluctuations in the popularity of particular game consoles, Capcom intends to design games capable of overcoming operating system differences simultaneously for all major consoles, presumably through internet play. Starting next fall Capcom will allow users of personal computers, PlayStation 2, Dreamcast, Xbox and GameCube to enjoy online matches with other players regardless of the machines they use. At the same time, Capcom will continue to create sequels to existing game franchises for specific consoles. “We expect to cut development costs about 25 percent thanks to the emulator software,” said Capcom spokesman Miho Hashimoto, hopefully resulting in less expensive Capcom games for consumers.
