Bandai Clarifies DVD Replicator Switch

Jerry Chu of Bandai Entertainment has informed Anime News Network that the switch from Cinram to Future Media for the manufacture of Anime Village DVDs was not in response to the widespread “manufacturing flaws” in recent Bandai anime DVDs but simply because Cinram was closing its local manufacturing plant and Bandai “…did not want to move… replication, halfway across the country.” According to Chu, widespread reports of Bandai DVDs including Outlaw Star DVD 2, Gundam Wing volume 5 and Endless Waltz and Don’t Leave Me Alone Daisy, were not due to flaws in the discs themselves but should be blamed on particular DVD players instead. According to Chu, the solution was not to re-press the discs but for consumers to “try the DVD on another player.” Oddly enough, versions of the Cinram DVDs with “incompatibility problems” manufactured by Future Media do not display any of the “incompatibility” errors that the Cinram discs do.
