Japanese Dreamcast Board Modified

In December 2000, Sega of Japan released its limited edition pink Sakura Taisen Dreamcast. Beside having Sakura Taisen characters emblazoned on the unit, the unit contained a modified system board that would only read GD-ROM software. Sega of Japan has now begun to distribute this board in the standard Japanese Dreamcast console. To curb software and game piracy, all new Japanese Dreamcast units play only GD-ROM and standard music CDs. Bootlegs and CD-R discs, convertor boot discs, and the Dreamcast Gameshark on CD are no longer compatible with current issue Japanese Dreamcast systems. It shouldn’t be long before Sega of America follows suit and upgrades the system board of the American Dreamcast console.
