4Kids Announces Yu-Gi-Oh Movie

4Kids Entertainment has issued an official press release (in PDF format) announcing the American release of the Yu-Gi-Oh movie on August 13, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The press release labels the movie as the “first theatrical motion picture based on the hit YU-GI-OH! animated television series.” In fact, this new movie is the second Yu-Gi-Oh theatrical movie and the first movie based on the currently ongoing Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters anime series that started in Japan in 2000. The first Yu-Gi-Oh movie was based on the first Yu-Gi-Oh TV series from 1998.

The 4Kids press release also announces that Burger King restaurants will offer movie tie-in premiums, and Konami will distribute a rare Yu-Gi-Oh collector’s card to film-goers.

In YU-GI-OH!: The Movie, after the conclusion of the Battle City Tournament, deep below the sands of Egypt, an ancient evil has awakened. Anubis, who was defeated centuries ago by Yugi’s mysterious alter ego – the ancient Pharaoh – has returned for revenge. Wielding the power of the Eighth Millennium Item, Anubis is determined to destroy Yugi and take over the world!
