2005 Japan Media Arts Award Winners Announced

The Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs has announced it’s 2005 Media Art Festival prize winners. The grand prize in the animation category was awarded to Sumito Sakakibara’s latest work, “Ukirou” (Romanization may be incorrect). The Kamichu! anime TV series from Risky Safety director Koji Masunari was awarded one of the 5 excellence awards in the field of animation.

The grand prize in the manga category was awarded to Azuma Hideo’s “Shisso Nikki” (Disappearance Diary). The 5 other manga series recognized for excellence included Naoki Urasawa’s PLUTO, Kaoru Mori’s Emma, and Mita Norifusa’s Dragon Zakura.
