As part of the NTV television network’s new “Lupin Steal Japan” promotional campaign, manga master thief Lupin the 3rd has “stolen” the large “Moyai,” (“work together” in Niijima Island dialect) statue normally located at the northeast exit of the Shibuya train station in Tokyo. Ask John: Why Is There No Alice in Wonderland Anime?

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Question:
Why are there no solid adaptions of Alice in Wonderland in anime? I noticed that there are several parodies, but most of them contain a cat girl or boy doing the cheshire cat or a bunny girl or boy doing the white rabbit and/or march hare. Would a serious attempt not be considered anime? It seems like the only reason the two cross paths is for the sake of fan service (I.E. Miyuki-chan in Wonderland).

Sentai Filmworks will release complete series DVD collections of the Skull Man and Maria Holic television anime series on February 2 and 23, respectively. The 2007 Skull Man anime series is a 13 episode action/horror loosely based on the late Shotaro Ishinomori’s predecessor to Kamen Rider. Maria Holic is a sitcom revolving around a lesbian girl with a algery to men whose room mate at an all-girls school is a cross-dressing boy. Switchblade Pictures will release the live action Kirenji Women’s College DVD collection on February 9 and the live action Ryuji the Yakuza collection on February 23.

Sentai Filmworks & Switchblade Pictures releases are distributed by Section23.

I’m surprised that it took so long for Skull Man to get licensed. Not surprised to see Maria Holic picked up so quickly.

Sora_no_Woto_CM

The official website for next month’s Sora no Woto (Sounds of the Sky) television series is now streaming a new 30 second TV spot. The series will premiere on January 4th.

I do think this show looks promising, but I hope its pedigree and its heavy advance promotion isn’t creating stratospheric expectations that the show won’t be able to meet.
