Word on New Cowboy Bebop Anime

According to an interview with Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe published on the English language version of the official Japanese Cowboy Bebop website, Watanabe expressed his desire to not produce any more Cowboy Bebop anime. Watanabe states, “I don’t think we should just keep on making Cowboy Bebop sequels for the sake of it. It’s more in keeping with the Bebop spirit to quit while we’re ahead _ when people still want more.”

Adding further support to the idea that there will be no new Cowboy Bebop anime produced, according to occasional AnimeNation news advisor Michiko Ito, in a recent interview with director Watanabe and music director Sugano published by the Japanese Asahi Newspaper, “Watanabe stated that he was not willing to make a new series, because the taste of BeBop lies in the sadness (heart-rending sorrow) that things have to come to an end (Owatte shimau koto no setsunasa). He is afraid that if he continues making new series, the work would be dull. So, he thinks it rather ‘kakkoii’ (cool) to end the title here.”
