Viz Pictures Acquires Live Action Manga Films

Viz Pictures has formally announced its acquisition of English language translation rights to the Japanese live action Love Com and Nana movies.

The 2006 Love Com movie is an adaptation of Aya Nakahara’s bestselling manga, currently published in English by Viz.

The 2005 film Nana, and its 2006 sequel Nana 2, are based on Ai Yazawa’s bestselling manga, also published in English by Viz.

Earlier this year Viz Pictures announced its acquisition of distribution rights to the 2006 Honey & Clover live action feature, based on the manga by Chika Umino.

Honey & Clover will open in limited American theatrical distribution in December. Love Com will be released directly to DVD in February 2008. Nana will be released theatrically in early 2008 and Nana 2 will have a theatrical release in the spring of 2008. All four movies will have special premiere screenings at the upcoming New York Anime Festival December 7-9, 2007.
