Viz Announces Pulp Cancellation and New Licenses

Viz has officially announced that their monthly manga magazine Pulp, which focused mainly on avant garde and mature audiences manga stories and feature articles, will publish its final issue in August. The cancellation is very likely a result of poor sales.

By the time the magazine finishes its publication serialized stories Bakune Young, Cinderella, and Uzumaki will have reached their conclusions. Dance Till Tomorrow will continue in a straight-to-graphic-novel format. And Banana Fish will continue in Animerica Extra Magazine starting in December.

At the same time Viz has announced plans English language releases of Koshun Takami’s novel Battle Royale- source for the highly controversial Kinji Fukasaku feature film, and debut translated manga from the “God of horror manga” Kazuo Umezu later this year.
