US Release for Godzilla Vs Megaguiras?

After the mediocre box office take of Godzilla 2000, the chances of a domestic theatrical release for the next film in the Toho series, Godzilla Vs. Megaguiras seem questionable. While participating in an online chat, G2000 producer Michael Schlesinger addressed the last film’s box office receipts and the future of Gojira Vs Megaguiras.

“We’re very pleased with the results,” Schlesinger said. “We got mostly favorable reviews (though a bit patronizing, but we expected that), almost everyone who came liked it…(except women over 49, but we expected that, too), and the film will show a tidy profit. So, yeah, we’re happy. As to the theatrical release of GvM, that decision won’t be made until the video of G2K comes out in January. After the number-crunchers swoop down and do their thing, the decision will be made. But even if they decide to go back to [direct-to-video], once it actually does so, I’m free to do whatever I want, so I could probably scrounge a couple of subtitled prints from Japan and play it off in the repertory houses. So one way or another, the odds are pretty good.”
