US Anime Market Worth 2.8 Billion in 2007

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) recently released “State of the Content Market in North America 2008-2009” white paper reports that the North American anime market was worth $2.829 billion US dollars (about 280 billion yen) in 2007. That’s a 40% decline from the 2003 high of $4.84 billion.

Character goods accounted for the largest North American sales gross at $2.512 billion. North American DVD sales accounted for $316 million in 2007, down from 2002’s height of $415 million US.
