Upcoming Anime Releases and Rumors

Viz will begin to release Maison Ikkoku on DVD later this year, most likely with 3 episodes per disc (which would require 32 DVDs to complete the series), along with the sixth American season of Ranma also with 3 episodes per $24.95 disc. The first five American seasons will be released as DVD boxed sets. According to further rumor, Viz will release Video Girl Ai on 2 DVDs later this year as well.

Right Stuf will debut Kare Kano on 4 total DVDs beginning this fall. Boogiepop Phantom will also debut in the US sometime this year.

AD Vision claims that Spriggan has been submitted to the MPAA for a theatrical rating, so there’s a “50/50 chance you’ll see it this fall.” Orphen will be available soon, but will not be released next month, as originally scheduled.

Media Blasters has said that they do plan to release the entire Rurouni Kenshin TV series in the US. It’s still uncertain if this plan includes the unbroadcast “episode 95.”

AnimEigo is hoping to release the first Macross TV series DVD in May. The entire series will consist of 6 subtitled only DVDs, each with 6 episodes. 3 full discs of supplementary material will be sold separately, and as part of the Macross TV series DVD boxed set.
