TOKYOPOP Cancels Smile Magazine

TOKYOPOP has officially announced its intention to cease publication of its shoujo manga/girl pop culture magazine Smile. The final issue will hit news stands this month. According to TOKYOPOP spokesperson Kristien Brada, the magazine is not being discontinued due to poor sales but rather “to free up more resources for other work, particularly on the ‘Authentic Manga’ line of products.” “We were really blown away, in a good way, by the response to the Authentic Manga line,” explains Brada, “We want to be able to put just as much time into each book (Authentic Manga).”
