Three Tokyo Citizens Arrested for Violating Manga Copyrights

The Asahi Newspaper has reported that three Japanese citizens have been arrested by Tokyo police for illegally uploading over 17,000 volumes of manga to an internet website. 52 year old Muramoto Toraji and two partners scanned 1,300 manga titles by nearly 700 authors and hosted the books on a website that they planned to develop as a commercial enterprise. Muramoto refused to stop his unauthorized distribution after repeated warnings and requests from publishers and manga authors. Police were finally brought in to shut down the illegal distribution.
