Takashi Shimizu to Direct Majo no Takkyubin Live-Action Movie

The Sports Hochi and Sports Nippon newspapers have confirmed rumors that Ju-On & Shock Labyrinth director Takashi Shimizu will direct a live-action feature film adaptation of Eiko Kadono’s Majo no Takkyubin (Witch’s Express Mail Service) children’s novel series. Kadono published six “Kiki’s Delivery Service” novels from 1985-2009. The first novel was adaptated into an acclaimed Studio Ghibli anime film in 1989, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Shimizu’s film will star 16-year-old television actress Fuuka Koshiba appearing in her first film role. The live-action movie will adapt the first two novels. The film will tentatively premiere next spring.
