Sony To Give Godzilla 2000 A Big Push This Weekend

Sony is opening the Japanese-produced Godzilla 2000 on more than 2000 screens this weekend. In an interview with the Associated Press, Michael Schlesinger, the Sony exec who supervised the U.S. version of the Toho film, commented, “This was kind of a rebirth movie. It was such a spectacular success in Japan, we decided it was worth taking a shot, maybe the time was right for Godzilla to come back to theaters.” AP said that it cost Sony less than $1 million to re-edit and dub the movie and that prints and advertising will cost it an additional $10 to $12 million.
