Sometimes It Works

Ain’t It Cool News reports that Miramax will be keeping the title of Shaolin Soccer intact for the movie’s American release.

Miramax Vice President of Publicity Hiromi Kawanishi confirmed that strong and vocal opposition from film fans and the influential Ain’t It Cool News fan site convinced Miramax to drop plans for renaming the Hong Kong action/comedy film “Kung-Fu Soccer” for its American release.

This is, of course, good news for fans of Stephen Chow’s record breaking movie, but also good news and a good omen for all fans of foreign and particularly Asian cinema considering that Miramax will be distributing Michelle Yeoh’s The Touch, Tsui Hark’s Zu Warriors, Zhang Yimou’s Hero, Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away, and Pokemon movies 4 & 5 in America in the future.
