Show By Rock!! Anime Announced

Sanrio has announced that its 2012 mobile phone rhythm game Show By Rock!! will get an anime TV series adaptation. The production will be Sanrio’s first ever otaku-oriented late-night anime production. The original game revolves around four animal-girls who form a rock band called “Plasmagica.” The anime TV series will premiere next year.

Certainly this announcement is following upon the popularity of girl rock anime like K-On and idol anime including Love Live, Wake Up Girls, and Idolm@ster, but the entire idea of rockin’ animal girls in an otaku anime from Sanrio appeals to me tremendously. It feels like another example that Sanrio is growing up with its audience and becoming more responsive to hardcore otaku fans.
