Shaolin Soccer to Get Name Change?

According to rumor published by Ain’t It Cool News, Miramax Films has plans to change the title of Shaolin Soccer for its American release to “Kung Fu Soccer.” Shaolin Soccer has quickly become the most popular film ever released in Hong Kong and has received rave reviews from screenings worldwide. The action comedy includes heavy use of CG visual effects to tell the story of rival teams of Shaolin monks that use their superhuman kung fu skills to enhance their soccer matches. The film is reportedly scheduled for American theatrical release on April 5th. It has not yet been determined whether the US version will be subtitled or dubbed. Miramax Films, a long time supporter of foreign and independent film in America, is ironically also known for its predilection toward editing, dubbing and “Americanizing” foreign films.
