Saturday Anime July 8th

The episode of Card Captors shown on July 8th was not the earlier mentioned “Doubled Edged Sword,” but “The Cave,” originally Japanese episode 17, “Sakura’s Scary Courage Test.” It will be interesting to see if they ever show episode 16, “Sakura and the Rainbow of Memories,” a slow, subtle episode with no Clow Cards. Dialogue changes in “The Cave” altered some of the episode’s jokes. The American episode concludes with Sakura and Li furiously playing volley-ball after resident pathological liar Zachary, originally Takashi, explains to them that volley-ball was used by the ancient Egyptians to determine who was next in line for the throne. Originally Takashi explained that the ancient Egyptians believed whoever won at volleyball would be lucky in love. The dialogue change may indicate an effort to remove some of the romantic aspect of the series.

As stated earlier, despite Bandai’s press release that Blue Submarine No. 6 would premiere on Cartoon Network’s Rising Sun block July 8th, it was not shown. A repeat of the first episode of Tenchi Muyo! was shown in the place were Blue Submarine was to debut.
