Salaryman Kintaro Article

The Christian Science Monitor has conducted an interview with Salaryman Kintaro manga creator Hiroshi Motomiya and published the results as an article titled “Dilbert with an attitude: Japan’s new ‘salaryman’.” The article details the growing dissatisfaction of the “salaryman,” white-collar for life employment structure that has characterized Japan for decades. Salaryman Kintaro is a best selling manga in Japan right now that has spawned a live-action television drama, Playstation game, and two live-action movies. Main character Kintaro is viewed as a fantasy hero for Japanese corporate employees because “He points out a bad thing as bad and a good thing as good” in a society that does not permit or accept criticism or suggestion from employee to employer.
