Right Stuf Acquires Princess Knight

Right Stuf has announced plans for a DVD release of Princess Knight, the edited American TV broadcast version of the 1967 Ribbon no Kishi anime television series. The 52-episode series will be released on two American DVD sets next year with selectable English and Spanish audio. Since the video will be the edited American version first broadcast in 1978, the DVDs will not include the original Japanese language audio track.

The complete Ribbon no Kishi television series was released on Japanese DVD in 2001 and re-released in 2008. However, Right Stuf’s Shawne Kleckner states that, “Putting a license to get this title back into circulation, and including the original dub, has been a project I’ve been working on all the way back to the mid 1990s.” Therefore, the series will be released in its edited, dubbed version because, “This is a similar situation to our Astro Boy releases. Finding video & audio footage is difficult because people threw lots of stuff away…”

I’d be thrilled if this was the uncut, original language version, but regrettably I’m personally not interested in the cut & dubbed version.
