Revolutionary New Arcade Mode in Soul Calibur II

Namco has revealed the details of a “Conquest Mode” that will be included in the upcoming Japanese arcade version of Soul Calibur II. The consumer friendly gameplay mode will allow a player to select a character, as part of a 3 character team, and play 8 matches against computer controlled 3 character teams. After 8 matches the arcade machine will “memorize” and save the player’s character and fighting style, and this customized character will be added to the computer’s inventory of active characters to fight against other human players playing the Conquest mode on the same machine at a different time. Both the human player’s proficiency and the results of the computer controlled version of the player’s character’s fights will affect the player’s score and ability ranking saved on the machine. Through the use of a password, a player may return to using his personal character at any time; however, unlike Japanese Virtua Fighter 4 arcade machines, Soul Calibur II arcade machines will not be networked so customized Soul Calibur II characters cannot be ported between different arcade machines.
