Region 2 Studio Ghibli DVD Releases

According to a list from the Miyazaki Mailing List the following Ghibli movies will be released on region 2 DVD on the following dates:

11/17/2000 – Ho-Hokekyo Tonari no Yamada-kun (My Neighbors, The Yamadas)
2/2001 – Panda ko Panda (region 1 Panda Go Panda version)
3/2001 – Lupin III: Kariostuoro no Shiro (region 1 Castle Of Cagliostro version)
5/2001 – Meitantei Hoomuzu movie (Great Detective Holmes, AKA Sherlock Hound)
6/2001 – Majo no Takkyuubin (Kiki’s Delivery Service)
9/2001 – Kaze no Tani no Naushika (Nausicaä Of The Valley Of Wind)
11/2001 – Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro)
1/2002 – Heisi Tanuki-Gassen Pon Poko
4/2002 – Mimi wo Sumaseba (Whisper Of The Heart)
5/2002 – Yanagawa Horiwari Monogatari (live action documentary directed by Takahata)
6/2002 – Tenkuu no Shiro Lapyuta (Castle In The Sky: Laputa)
7/2002 – Umi ga Kikoeru (I Hear The Ocean)
8/2002 – Kurenai no Buta (Porco Rosso, The Crimson Pig)
11/2002 – Mononoke Hime {region 1 Princess Mononoke version)

So far, the already released region 2 DVD version of Sero Hiki no Soshu (Gouche the Cellist) features optional English subtitles, and the upcoming Yamada-kun DVD will include English, French and Japanese subtitles. Presumably the Japanese releases of Panda Ko Panda, Castle Cagliostro and Mononoke Hime will also include the American English subtitle tracks. Hopefully the rest of these Japanese DVDs will also feature English subtitles, and the announcement of Japanese DVD versions may prove good news for increased chances of more American region 1 Studio Ghibli films released on DVD.
