Production I.G Announces New Hand-Drawn Film

Production I.G has formally announced its development of Giovanni no Shima (Giovanni’s Island), an original historical drama anime film about a friendship developing between a Japanese boy and a Russian boy on the remote Japanese island of Shikotan immediately following the end of WWII. Multi-award-winning screenwriter & director Shigemichi Sugita and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex episode screenwriter Yoshiki Sakurai collaboratively composed the film’s screenplay. Ghost in the Shell & Sky Crawlers animation director Nishikubo Mizuho is directing the picture, which will be reportedly be entirely hand-drawn. The film is scheduled for a tentative spring 2014 premiere.
