Playstation Mech Anime Games

PSX.IGN.com is reporting that a third Japanese 3D Playstation Macross game is in the works. While VF-X and V-FX 2 were generally considered failures due to camera and control problems, a new developer and publish, Shueisha Takara respectively, has decided to tackle the problem with a Macross Plus game. Shoji Kawamori is in charge of direction and game design. The soundtrack features excerpts from Yoko Kanno’s original soundtrack. The game will feature a split screen, two player, dogfight mode. It is likely that the game will run into the technical limitations of the Playstation, and some are predicting that it will be plagued by the same problems as the previous Macross games.

GameFan is reporting that a Playstation 2 game based the CGI/Live Action Gundam movie “G-Savior” is in the works. According to early reports, players will not only pilot the primary mech, but several new mobile suits as well. Combat will apparently be context-sensitive, meaning close-quarters battle will automatically engage the mech’s beam saber, while distance attacks will consist of missiles and other mobile suit-specific weapons. The game will consist of a series of missions, not unlike the Armored Core series, and it appears that players can expect gameplay to run along those same lines.
