Playstation 3 Already?

Sony has already begun to reveal early specifications of the Playstation 3 to the media. The first, and potentially most impressive new factor was announced last week. The PS3 graphics chip will contain 256Mb of memory space, compared to the PS2 graphic chip which contains only 32Mb of memory. The PS3 graphics chip will be capable of handling 75 million polygons per second with a fill rate of 1.2 – 2.6 billion pixels per second. The Playstation 3 could be released to the market as early as next year. Partially intending to compete with the technical capability of Microsoft’s Xbox, due out at the end of this year, Sony is pushing to constantly upgrade the Playstation as quickly as possible to directly compete with the Intel Pentium processor and transform the Playstation into not just a console video game unit, but into an entire home entertainment and digital computer & processing center.
