Opening A Day
To refresh your memory or introduce you to an interesting opening animation sequence, I submit the atmospheric opening of the 1998 Midnight Detective Nightwalker television series. The opening theme is “Gessekai,” performed by Buck Tick.

This opening was in stark contrast to an anime that was either too “cartoony” or too overdramatic and never really hit a solid stride. Still good, but not amazing.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this anime… I thought it was decent at the time as a sort-of “Interview with the Vampire” homage. The opening is very cool for one that has very little animation… the music carries it for sure.
Very good song in that opening sequence… but I would probably end up skipping it after a half-dozen episodes (it kind of lingers and drags along a bit).
Yay, thanks for taking my suggestion! Love this OP, which introduced me to Buck Tick’s music. It’s funny how almost every show with an OP or ED by them features vampires.
Like the song, but what’s with that bridge? Does it have magical powers? Why is it shown more than anything else? 🙂
