Nintendo Victorious Over Cyber-Squatters

Nintendo of America has announced a complete victory in its legal suit against internet “cyber-squatters,” individuals that registered internet domain names involving Nintendo owned franchises such as “pokemon-trader.com” in the hope of re-selling these URLs at a big profit. Nintendo sued 48 different domain names under the auspices of the 2000 Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, charging violation of intellectual property rights, and was awarded $560,000 in damages ranging from $2,000 to $30,000 per site name by the US District Court in Seattle, Washington.
