New Hunter x Hunter Anime to be a Reboot

The NTV broadcast network has announced that this fall’s new Hunter x Hunter television series will be a new adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s manga starting from the beginning. The new show will be animated by Madhouse under director Hiroshi Koujina (Rainbow, Majin Tantei Nogami Neuro) and star an all new voice cast. The previous 92 episodes were animated by Nippon Animation.

While this decision may seem odd, long-time fans should remember that the previous Hunter x Hunter TV series and three follow-up OVA series were current from 1999-2004. So there’s been seven years for a new generation of Japanese viewers to grow up without any Hunter x Hunter anime.
