New Godzilla Film Officially Announced

Yesterday Toho officially announced “Godzilla-Mothra-King Ghidorah: Daikaiju Sogougeki” (Godzilla-Mothra-King Ghidorah: Giant Monster Super Battle). This latest film, scheduled to begin production in May for release on December 15, will once again create a new Godzilla continuity, disregarding all previous Godzilla films except the first movie from 1954. The new film will feature re-designed Mothra, King Ghidorah and Baragon as legendary holy guardian monsters that must combine their strengths to protect Japan from destruction by Godzilla. The film is to be directed by Shusuke Kaneko, who directed the 90s Gamera trilogy. Kaneko has called the opportunity to direct a Godzilla film the fruition of a life-long dream. Kaneko said, “The direction will be very realistic, but I hope this movie will also be a family fare with a lot of inspiration and dream. The characteristic element of Godzilla is that though he is destructive and a bad guy, but somehow he could be understandable (or acceptable?) in what he does. Also he has the image of all kinds of warfare with him. I am making the film with the feeling ‘This IS the (ultimate) kaiju film.'”
