More A-kon Convention Announcements

Bandai confirmed at last weekend’s A-kon convention that there will be no more new titles announced for release this year. Love Hina and Saber Marionette J Again will both be released on DVD next year, and both Brain Powered and Silent Mobius will be on DVD eventually. Bandai stated that the original, unedited Japanese language credits for their releases may be included as a special feature on their DVD releases in the future. The DVD release of Crest of the Stars was delayed to allow for time for Bandai to remaster the American DVDs from better source prints which they received recently. Finally, ironically, Bandai officially stated that they disapprove of the distribution of full anime episodes over the internet, but at the same time still expected fans to be familiar with Love Hina, which has been extensively proliferated through the net but is not commonly available in the US otherwise.

No Pioneer representatives showed up for the scheduled Pioneer panel discussion.

AD Vision stated that Spriggan will open theatrically in 2 cities nationwide then receive a “platform release” in other major markets. ADV Films is hoping to have their entire catalog on DVD eventually, including several future releases which will be DVD exclusives. The first City Hunter TV series currently available on subtitled VHS will only be released on DVD if the DVD release of City Hunter 2 is successful. There are apparently plans to release the risque Japanese home video version of Sakura Diaries on 2 DVDs available exclusively directly from AD Vision.

Synch Point confirmed that while they are scouting an American voice for Dejiko for American Gamers TV commercials, they do not posess the American translation and distribution rights to any of the Di-Gi-Charat TV animation series.
